Where To Stay

There are over 1,000 rooms available... and where you stay is a significant part of your DIY process! Consider the amenities of a resort, the more personal feel of a small hotel or condo, and the privacy of a villa or house.

Three large hotels make up about half the available rooms on St. Croix. These corporate-aligned hotels are all beachfront, but very different. If you have loyalty programs with Wynham, Marriott, or Divi, there may be an advantage in those properties.

There are a couple dozen smaller hotels which have their own advantages of location. Do your research regarding location and the general personality of each property. Being in town means some stores, bars, and restaurants are nearby without driving. It may also make parking more complex. Renting a vehicle is highly recommended, as there is much more to explore on St. Croix than the things within walking distance.

If you are planning to travel in a group, renting a house or condo may be ideal. This allows for better group time and can be more private. Properties run the spectrum from multi-million dollar mansions to basement studio apartment. Be aware of appealing sales text in marketing materials and do your own search to confirm proximity to the waterfront, utilities, and support. Guest reviews are key to this process.

All-Inclusives are not popular on St. Croix

St. Croix is not ideal for all-inclusive resorts, and is best enjoyed in many places... beaches, trails, adventures, historical places, shopping, etc. Across the island, there are many exceptional dining options and activities, and paying up front for meals and drinks in one location is very limiting. There have been a number of large resorts planned, but only one relatively small all-inclusive exists. Divi is an all-inclusive resort on St. Croix with dining and a casino. Read reviews before deciding whether this is really for you. The advantages of all-inclusives are often based on the availability of cheap local labor and poverty which is not as significant in the US Virgin Islands as it is in Jamaica, Mexico, Dominican Republic, etc. By comparison, it is much easier to shop, dine, and explore St. Croix on your own.
